Cinderella Castle Transformation: Magic Kingdom Icon Sheds Its Construction Skin Overnight
Walls Come Down: The Iconic Cinderella Castle Finally Reveals Its New Look After Months of Construction

If you have been planning your dream trip to Magic Kingdom, you may feel disappointed to see construction walls in your vacation photos. For months, Cinderella Castle, the main attraction of the park, has been covered with scaffolding and work crews.
But things are changing. Last night, a significant update happened at the center of the park, suggesting that this long construction project is nearing its end.
The Great Color Shift: Back to the Classic Look
For those who have been visiting Walt Disney World since 2021, the castle has been wearing a bold, controversial pink-and-dark-blue aesthetic. While it served its purpose for the resort’s 50th-anniversary celebration, many fans have been eagerly awaiting a return to a more traditional, regal appearance.
In 2025, Disney announced the plan: a return to the roots. The new light-blue-and-gray color scheme is a direct homage to the castle’s original 1971 design. It’s a nostalgic nod that many legacy Disney fans have been craving, and seeing those iconic colors emerge from behind the tarps has been a highlight for guests visiting in 2026.
What Changed Overnight?
If you walked through the hub this morning, you likely noticed a significant difference. As of April 15, the construction walls that had been boxing in portions of the Fantasyland side of the castle have been hauled away.
This isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about accessibility. With the walls down, the beautiful walking path toward the castle—including the beloved Cinderella’s Wishing Well—is finally open again. It’s a massive relief for photographers and guests who just want that perfect, unobstructed view of the park’s centerpiece.
What’s Still Left to Do?
While the removal of the walls is a huge step forward, crews are still putting the final polish on the project. If you look closely, you’ll notice:
-
The Moat: Currently, the moat remains drained as Imagineers perform necessary inspections for leaks or wear and tear caused by the construction process.
-
The Finishing Touches: A crane remains visible in the area, as crews focus their final efforts on the upper reaches of the castle roof and a few remaining turret details.

How This Impacts Your Upcoming Trip
Is your vacation ruined by the remaining work? Not at all. In fact, now is arguably one of the best times to visit. You get to witness a historic transformation firsthand, and with the major walls removed, your ability to navigate the hub and Fantasyland has been greatly restored.
While Disney hasn’t dropped an official “completion date,” the progress is undeniable. The “Let the Magic Begin” opening show and Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire have been operating with modifications to accommodate the work, but with the walls coming down, we expect a return to full, unhindered operation very soon.
