Until Dawn 2 Revealed: Everything You Need to Know About the Firesprite Sequel

On June 2, 2026, Sony announced the release of Until Dawn 2 during the PlayStation State of Play. Fans have wanted a sequel since the original game became popular in 2015, and after the success of the 2025 film adaptation, the franchise is returning, now bigger than ever.

The sequel is being developed by Firesprite Games, a PlayStation studio, and aims to enhance the horror storytelling experience for PlayStation 5.

A New Setting: The Terror of Akishima Island

While the original game stranded players on a snowy mountain, Until Dawn 2 moves to a tropical setting filled with tension. The story features a group of influencers from a popular ghost-hunting channel called Dead True. They think they’ve hit the jackpot with a fully funded episode set on a remote, abandoned tropical island.

As expected from this series, their trip turns into a harsh fight for survival. Firesprite has confirmed that the game will keep the Butterfly Effect system. This means every decision you make impacts the story, affects character relationships, and determines who survives. This time, the system focuses more on the worries of social media and the “fakeness” of online image.

The Stacked Until Dawn 2 Cast

Firesprite is leaning heavily into the prestige casting model that made the original title feel so cinematic. The Until Dawn 2 cast features a blend of Hollywood heavy hitters and gaming industry icons:

  • Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things)

  • Neil Newbon (Baldur’s Gate 3), who plays the mysterious older companion, Sebastian.

  • Peter Stormare, who officially returns as the franchise’s anchor, Dr. Alan J. Hill.

  • Additional Cast: Hannah Kepple (Josie), Janina Gavankar, Tanner Buchanan, Camila Senna, Sarah Catherine Hook, Gia Kim, Andie Ju, Gavin Leatherwood, and Spencer Moore II.

The inclusion of Peter Stormare is a major win for continuity, confirming that this anthology story shares the same DNA as the original. His presence as the “Analyst” provides a consistent, unsettling thread that binds the franchise together.

Firesprite Games Takes the Reins

Many fans were curious about the shift from the original developer, Supermassive Games, to Firesprite Games. However, as a first-party Sony studio with experience on Horizon: Call of the Mountain, Firesprite is well-positioned to deliver the high-end production values this sequel demands.

The developer has promised to honor the “core DNA” of the series: intense character drama, agonizingly tough choices, and those signature horror moments that defined the first game.

Will Sam Return?

One big surprise in the trailer is the absence of fan-favorite character Sam. The developers are keeping her situation a secret, and this has stirred up discussions in fan forums. Is she going to make a surprise return, or is her story over? We will have to wait to find out.

Looking ahead to the 2027 release, one thing is clear: in Until Dawn 2, anyone can live or die. The question is, can you stick with it to achieve the best ending?

Are you excited about the new tropical setting, or do you prefer the snowy mountains from the original game? Let us know in the comments which character you’re most excited to play!
